Self Confidence And Success

Self Confidence and Success: The Cycle
Self-confidence is one topic you will not miss in any discussion about success. When a successful lecturer talks about it, do we believe what they say? Do we whisper to ourselves and say “that’s you and this is me and it’s not gonna happen to me.” Interesting.  Even while you ponder over it, the level of self-confidence turns out to be the variance between you and the speaker. Two differeing outcomes, one common mechanism equals the snowball effect.  Self-confidence can help people achieve success and success gives them further self-confidence. It also means the lack of it can hinder your success and your lack of success will make you less confident with yourself.

What is self-confidence? It is trust in one’s ability and judgment. The level of self-confidence varies from person to person. We are tempted to state that success is based on on whether your self-confidence is realistic. Just think about it carefully - what is reasonable? Should a person who is not trained be less self-confident than someone with a high educational attainment? Should a disabled person restrict his self-confidence because of his physical limitations? No! The truth is that self-confidence is so powerful it can take you past your limitations. The majority of its power comes from the snowball effect.

Step 3: Failure reduces your self-confidence.

Step 1: Low or lack of self-confidence makes you fearful to try anything, even those things you can really do.

After stage 3, the next time you go through stage 1, it is performed at a higher level. And so the cycle continues.

Event 2: You can’t possibly achieve in something you have not tried or pursued. If you try anything new at all, you are almost certainly going to fail if you lack self-confidence.

And now, let’s imagine what a lack of self-confidence can do for your life:

Here is how the snowball effect occurs:
Step 1: Self-confidence makes you ready to try anything.

Step 3: When you’re successful, your self-confidence increases.

Step 2: When you have a crack at more things, you are more likely to succeed in most of them, if not all.

After step 3, you go through stage 1 at a lower level.

Self-confidence is like a muscle that you should exercise. If you don’t exercise it, you are just about guaranteed to lose it. In life there are no losers aside from those who have decided to become losers. In reality, they are just individuals who are lost in the vicious cycle of failure and low self-confidence.

How To Improve You Self Esteam

 Improving Your Self Esteem
Do you like your appearance? Do you consider yourself a failure? Are you scared of rejection? These are examples of the questions you will be asked to examine your self worth.  Self esteem is your assessment of your own worth and it includes your attitudes about yourself.

What can you try to boost your self esteem? It may be difficult to change your beliefs but it can be done. The fact that you recognize the need to improve is already the initial step.

Learning or developing new skills
Make sure to develop life skills or skills for solving problems and coping with life’s challenges. You can also boost your pre-existing vocational skills. Learning new things is always interesting and makes you feel better about yourself.

Perhaps this is one of the most frequently measured variables in organizations, education and other fields. Also, it’s often associated with a number of things in your life like success, academic achievement and satisfaction. This is a personal issue that frequently becomes a not-so-private concern when it’s measured. It shows in your self-evaluation results and your overall personality. Actually, so much fuss is made about your self esteem, because it affects your goal accomplishment and self actualization.

Know what triggers your low self esteem and avoid it
Recognize the things that make you think ill of yourself. If possible steer clear of them or change your frame of mind towards them. If some people seem to like putting you down, then accept that you can’t be friends with everybody and move on with your life despite rejection. Do you have negative habits that throw you into a cycle of false assurance or esteem and then leave you feeling miserable later? Alcoholism can only promote self-loathing; make a sustained effort to quit.

Thinking positive
Low self esteem is also the result of negative beliefs, wherein your negative thoughts are directed to yourself. Have the right standpoint and be realistic. Don’t exaggerate your weaknesses; highlight your good points. There’s no point in thinking too bad about yourself. People who have great self esteem are not easily discouraged when they face challenges.

Caring for your self
You can’t possess high self esteem without taking care of your wellness and appearance. The more you see yourself start to improve physically, the more you will feel positive about yourself.

How to Gain Self Confidence

Charge It to Experience, Gain Self-Confidence
Have you heard of the adage “experience is the best teacher”? Perhaps you have, but not the one that also tells us “…and considering what it cost, it should be.”  It’s also likely that you have not heard it being invoked with regards to increasing your self-confidence. Doesn’t experience tell you something about self-confidence? It can!

Self-forgiveness
Without reference to the religious persuasion or worldview you belong to, you will acknowledge that not being able to forgive yourself is harmful for your self-confidence.  One funny example is getting such a terrible school report that your face turns crimson every time you remember it. You remember how hot your face was, how cloudy your glasses were and how lousy your report was.

We often consider being confident, doing things and knowing ourselves as being the best ways to boost our self-confidence, but we sometimes forget about the role of experience in our level of confidence. There is much to be realized from experience considering its value.  In fact, if we’re genuine with ourselves, we will admit that quite a lot of our experiences explain our self-confidence or the lack of it. If bad experiences bring us down, how should we prevent them? If the last piece of self-confidence that we have originates from some of our best experiences, how can we make ourselves remember them?

Inside many employees who usually keep their mouth shut in the office, are students who had some awful public speaking or reporting experiences. Shouldn’t you forgive yourself already? Daily life is difficult enough even without that kind of emotional baggage.  Stop eternally judging yourself. Every season of “Britain’s Got Talent” eventually ends. Why can’t you move on? If there’s any idea you must un-learn by yourself, it is not to attempt anything daring again. Ask yourself what you could have done to succeed but don’t hate yourself for trying.

Highlight your wins
How come we keep disregarding the hand shaking, the “kudos” and “good job” and contemplate only on “needs improvement”? Remember also occasions when you were 101 percent positive of failure but you end up succeeding with flying colors. Peter Pan doesn’t posses a monopoly on cheerful thoughts and flying. Have a child-like attitude towards your victories; most kids seldom forget their success during childhood.  Many adults need to examine articles and blogs about self-confidence to be able to appreciate their own wins.

3-Tips To Building Self Confidence

Three Secrets to Building Self Confidence
Perhaps one of the hardest things to teach a person is self-confidence. This may be shocking but if you truly look at what self-confidence is and what it can do to a person, you will understand that some people may appear to have self-confidence but they don’t really have it. Other people are so good at faking that they have it that they seem to achieve the biggest of its promises - success. Sooner or later though, when their lack of self confidence rears its ugly head, they have to face up to their problems.

“Know Thyself”
If self-confidence is believing in your ability and your judgment then it certainly requires that you know yourself. You have to be truthful about your strengths and weaknesses. Ungenuine self-confidence can only give you short-term success. Any feelings of unworthiness or inabiility to do something should be dealt with honestly so you can prepare for it or overcome it. You need more than self confidence to join “Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” you must be sure you have enough stock knowledge to be able to respond to some of the questions and make wise guesses to answer the rest.

How can you develop genuine self-confidence? We can learn from the words of the wise through the centuries.

“The only thing we need to fear is fear itself”
Fear can be a very powerful foe of self confidence. They are like chalk and cheese yet they’re both coming from within yourself. If there’s anything that your self confidence has to proceed through first, it has to be fear barring the door to keep you from doing something. This statement by ex US president Franklin D. Roosevelt was made during his inaugural speech} in 1933 at the worst moment of the Great Depression. It simply means that there isn’t anything to be afraid of. With genuine self-knowledge and courage as opposed to fear, you will be confident with your ideas and your actions.

“Be gentle with yourself”
This is an motivational line from the poem “Desiderata” which is finished meaningfully with the lines “Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.” Even if you have self-knowledge and bravery, you won’t be able to build self-confidence if you are harsh with yourself and demanding too much from yourself. Like any belief system, self-knowledge can't be imposed upon yourself.  If the key word here is “build” or “develop”, and self-confidence must be deserved then you should be capable of feeling deserving.
